How to Set a Fixed / Static Control IP Address

By default, KLANG devices rely on DHCP (or link-local if no DHCP server is available). This manual walks you through setting up fixed IPs for KLANG hardware, KLANG:app (on computers, tablets, smartphones), and KLANG:kontroller, ensuring reliable auto-discovery and streamlined network management.

General Procedure

We recommend the following procedure to configure a KLANG system including KLANG:app on a computer with fixed IPs.

Prepare the Network

  1. Connect all devices to a network (at this point, they should all use DHCP, no fixed IP addresses assigned, yet)
  2. Turn off all additional network ports on your computer, especially disable WiFi if you are using an Ethernet connection
  3. Power cycle all devices (to make sure they use DHCP / zeroconf IP addresses)
  4. Open KLANG:app and wait for the devices to appear in CONFIG > CONNECT (this might take up to 30 seconds)

Assign Fixed (Static) IP Addresses

  1. Then follow instructions below for “KLANG processor / KLANG:kontroller”. Once successful, these devices might disappear in KLANG:app.
  2. Repeat the previous step for all devices that should be configured with a fixed IP address.
  3. At last, proceed with the steps for your windows or mac computer
It is important to make sure that KLANG processors / :kontrollers and your computer use IP addresses in the same subnet and they use the exact same subnet mask for KLANG:app auto device discovery to work properly.
If additional KLANG devices should be configured with a fixed IP address, first follow the instructions below for your computer, but DISABLED the fixed IP and use DHCP instead. Then follow the steps as in the list above.
DiGiCo Consoles use a static / fixed IP address of 192.168.x.x with a 255.255.0.0 = /16 subnet mask by default.
Make sure your computer has an IP address in the same subnet as the DiGiCo console and uses the same subnet mask. Some DiGiCo Consoles use a second IP address for the engine that sits just above the surface IP address.

Example:
Console/Surface has IP address 192.168.2.10 and subnet mask 255.255.0.0 = /16
(Engine could occupy the IP address 192.168.2.11).
Set your computer to e.g. the IP address 192.168.2.12 and subnet mask 255.255.0.0. We assume that this IP address is not used on the network and we will use this in the screenshots below and 192.168.1.200 for the KLANG processor as an example.

KLANG processor & :kontroller

Set default fixed IP 192.168.1.200 via Reset Button

With KOS 5.7, the reset button on KLANG processors can be used to quickly set the fixed IP address 192.168.1.200/16 which is compatible with the default DiGiCo IP address range. Simple push the recessed Reset button 3 times.

To revert to DHCP / link-local automatic IPs simply press the reset button 2 times. Jump to the section below for further info.

Via KLANG:app

KLANG:app > Login to KLANG processor or :kontroller

CONFIG > INFO > Set Menu > Set Fixed/Static IP

Choose from the Quick IP Wizard > DiGiCo default or manually enter IP address and Subnet mask, in this example 192.168.1.200/16 without a Default Gateway.

KLANG:kontrollers with an Ultimo Dante chip (serial starts with KRA…) always consists of two separate network devices with separate MAC addresses and they require two IP addresses: one KLANG control IP address and one Dante IP address. This can be configured via KLANG:app > CONFIG > INFO > Set Menu > Set Fixed/Static IP
IPcore KLANG:kontrollers (serial starts with KRB…) by default consist of a single network device and hence KLANG control and Dante share the same IP address. Only if VLANs are configured on IPcore KLANG:kontrollers, there are two different IP addresses; one for Control and one for Dante.
KLANG processors with a built-in Dante module (:vier, :fabrik, :vokal) consist of two separate network devices, one for the KLANG control server and one for the Dante module; hence, they also have two separate MAC addresses and each will use its own IP addresses. Dante IP addresses need to be configured via Dante Controller.

Windows

Win 10 & Win 11

Type settings into windows search bar

Choose Settings

Click Open

Choose your Ethernet adaptor

Choose Private Network

IP assignment > Edit (Click)

Choose Edit IP settings > Manual

Enable IPv4 > On

Type the IP address you want to be static, in this example 192.168.2.12 with subnet mask 255.255.0.0 = /16

Click Save

It is important to make sure that KLANG processors / :kontrollers and your computer use IP addresses in the same subnet and they use the exact same subnet mask for KLANG:app auto device discovery to work properly.

Mac OS

About Mac / Apple Icon > System preferences

Select Network > choose your network adaptor on the right

Select Details...

Select TCP/IP on the left

Select Configure IPv4 > Manually

Enter the desired static / fixed IP address and Subnet mask and Router/Gateway, in this example 192.168.2.12 with subnet mask 255.255.0.0 = /16 and Router (Default Gateway) 192.168.1.1

Click OK

It is important to make sure that KLANG processors / :kontrollers and your computer use IP addresses in the same subnet and they use the exact same subnet mask for KLANG:app auto device discovery to work properly.

iOS

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Wi-Fi.
  3. Tap the ⓘ info button next to the Wi-Fi network you’re connected to.
  4. Scroll to the section IPv4 Address.
  5. Tap Configure IP.
  6. Select Manual.
  7. Enter the following details (provided by your network administrator, or based on your network setup):
    • IP Address (the static IP you want to assign, e.g., 192.168.1.50)
    • Subnet Mask (commonly 255.255.255.0)
    • Router (your gateway, e.g., 192.168.1.1)
  8. Tap Save (top right).
If you need to revert to automatic assignment, just go back to Configure IP and select Automatic.
It is important to make sure that KLANG processors / :kontrollers and your computer use IP addresses in the same subnet and they use the exact same subnet mask for KLANG:app auto device discovery to work properly.

2nd Generation KLANG Processors only, KOS 5.7 required

This guide explains what the LED colors mean on a KLANG processor without a display. It helps users understand the network status, connection state, and audio clock validity — even before connecting a KLANG:app.

LED States

These LED states are shown immediately after boot, and if no KLANG:app or console is connected. It is also shown when the connection is timed out, i.e. no active connection to this device is present anymore for quite some time.
Once connected, the LED becomes solid purple, or blinks purple/red when the audio sync is not valid.
Diagnostic Mode | Blinking LED StateMeaningNotes
Half-Dim PurpleIP assigned via DHCPDHCP server provided a valid IP
BlueUsing link-local Auto-IPs: 169.254.x.x/16No DHCP, auto-assigned fallback IP
OrangeUsing a user defined Fixed IPManual IP set via KLANG:app or console, other than 192.168.1.200
WhiteUsing Default KOS IP192.168.1.200/16Default fixed IP that works well with default DiGiCo console IP addresses
Pulsing PurpleWaiting for :app/:kontroller/console to connect…Will overlay one of the above colors as base status
Button presses are acknowledged by a yellow LED blink for each button press after the detection of the button press sequence.

Once a KLANG:app or console connects, the LED indicates connection and audio clock status:

Connected LED StateMeaning
Solid Purple✅ Connected to at least one :app, :kontroller or console
Blinking Purple/Red⚠️ Audio clock is invalid (e.g., no sync)
The LED will always default to diagnostic mode after, as long as no app is connected. For network troubleshooting, power cycle the unit and observe the LED before connecting.
