Connecting other Digital Audio Protocols…

KLANG:vier is Dante / AES67 and ADAT compatible. KLANG:fabrik is compabible with Dante / AES67, ADAT and MADI BNC (optional). KLANG:vokal offers Dante and MADI and :konductor MADI, Dante and Optocore IO. These interfaces can be found in many studios and in many professional digital mixing consoles – sometimes expansion cards for digital consoles are available.

We will now look into other popular digital audio interfaces and how to connect from your setup with these interfaces in general to MADI, ADAT or Dante so you can easily integrate your KLANG immersive in-ear processor.

AES3

AuviTran AudioToolbox Platform

AuviTran AudioToolbox Platforms AVBx3 and AVBx7 can host several digital and analog input / output expansion cards. Among these digital options Dante (AxC-DANTE), MADI (AxC-MADI), ADAT (AxC-AT32IO), AES3 (AxC-DS32IO, AxC-DX8I and AxC-DX8O), CobraNet (AxC-CN32IO) and EtherSound (AxC-ES100) are available. Read more on the manufacturer’s website.

DAD AX32 / NTP Penta

The AX32 is a configurable AD/DA/DD converter. In has BNC MADI I/O (56/64ch frames), AES3 and there is a Dante option available. The 8 card slots can hold expansion cards with mic preamps, line inputs and analog outputs. With its DADman remote control software signals can be routed (single channel) from all inputs freely to all outputs including MADI to Dante. Remote control for Windows and Mac OS X. No sample rate conversion. Samplerates 44.1–192kHz. Read more on the manufacturer’s website.

DAD DX32 Digital Audio Bridge

Flexible converter and router with Dante (64×64 channels), AES3 (16×16 channels), MADI coax (64×64 channels) and ProTools. Remote control for Windows and Mac OS X. No sample rate conversion. Samples Rates 44.1–192kHz. Read more here.

Focusrite D16 AES

AES3 to Dante conversion with the Rednet D16 AES. Read more on the manufacturer’s website.

RME ADI-642

8 channel AES3 to MADI BNC and MADI optical converter. Read more on the manufacturer’s website.

RME ADI-6432

32 channel AES3 to MADI BNC and MADI optical converter. Read more on the manufacturer’s website.

Motu 112D

The Motu 112D is a flexible router that provides MADI, AVB, Optical, AES3 inputs and outputs. Read more on the manufacturers website.

AES50

Commonly used e.g. by Midas as connection to stage boxes but also in the Behringer x32/Midas M32 mixing consoles. Sometimes SuperMAC is used as trademark for the implementation. HyperMAC is similar by is based on Gigabit instead of 100Mbit/s. AES50 is a network layer 1 protocol.

Appsys Multiverter MVR-64

The Multiverter provides several digital interfances that can be converted to each other. Among these interfaces are MADI (BNC, optical, TP), MIDI in/out, GPIO, 8x ADAT I/O, AES50 and Dante/AES67. Read more on the manufacturer’s website.

KlarkTeknik DN9650

The KlarkTeknik DN9650 converts AES50 to digital formats by expansion cards. Among these digital interface options are Dante (KT-DANTE64) and MADI (KT-MADI) but also EtherSound and Aviom A-Net. Read more on the manufacturer’s website.

AVB | Audio Video Bridging

Audio Video Bridging (AVB) is used in some systems e.g. AVID S3L as connection between console and stage boxes.

It requires AVB compliant network switches.

BSS Soundweb London

There are converters available for AVB, Dante, CobraNet from and to BLU link. Read more on the manufacturer’s website.

Motu 112D

The Motu 112D is a flexible router that provides MADI, AVB, Optical, AES3 inputs and outputs. Read more on the manufacturers website.

Pivitec

The Pivitec e64I/O MADI converts 64 channels AVB to MADI. Read more on the manufacturer’s website.

CobraNet

CobraNet is a proprietary network layer 2 protocol.

AuviTran AudioToolbox Platform

AuviTran AudioToolbox Platforms AVBx3 and AVBx7 can host several digital and analog input / output expansion cards. Among these digital options Dante (AxC-DANTE), MADI (AxC-MADI), ADAT (AxC-AT32IO), AES3 (AxC-DS32IO, AxC-DX8I and AxC-DX8O), CobraNet (AxC-CN32IO) and EtherSound (AxC-ES100) are available. Read more on the manufacturer’s website.

BSS Soundweb London

There are converters available for AVB, Dante, CobraNet to each other via BLU link. Read more on the manufacturer’s website.

EtherSound

EtherSound is a proprietary protocol by Digigram on network layer 2.

AuviTran AudioToolbox Platform

AuviTran AudioToolbox Platforms AVBx3 and AVBx7 can host several digital and analog input / output expansion cards. Among these digital options Dante (AxC-DANTE), MADI (AxC-MADI), ADAT (AxC-AT32IO), AES3 (AxC-DS32IO, AxC-DX8I and AxC-DX8O), CobraNet (AxC-CN32IO) and EtherSound (AxC-ES100) are available. Read more on the manufacturer’s website.

Other Interfaces

A-Net | AVIOM

Aviom’s A-Net is a proprietary protocol by AVIOM running on CAT5 cables (network layer 1) e.g. from the Aviom Main Interface to the A320 or A360 Personal Mixing Consoles. There are expansion cards for Yamaha consoles DY16 with Aviom outputs. Mostly the Aviom personal products provide AVIOM inputs. In the case, you are running such a network, we highly recommend to use a second digital audio protocol to stream signals from your digital console to KLANG:fabrik or KLANG:vier, since there is no converter available. If you are using the AVIOM Dante Box, just connect KLANG:fabrik to the Dante network and stream the same (or more) signals to KLANG:fabrik / KLANG:vier.

Riedel Rocknet 300

From Rocknet 300 there is a MADI Interface (RN.334.MD) available. Please find further connections from MADI in the MADI section.
