Challenges with Local Network Access on MacOS

To manage Local Network Access for KLANG:app on macOS, follow this step-by-step guide. This is relevant especially for macOS 11 (Big Sur) and newer, where apps must request explicit permission to access other devices on the local network.

What is the issue?

If your KLANG:app detects KLANG devices on the network, but you cannot connect to them although the network seems to be configured correctly, it might look like this:

The network icon “N” above CONFIG is red.
You are not fully logged in and cannot access any mix or device settings.

First of all, update to the latest KLANG:app version and you will see a warning when this bug on mac os’ local network access is detected by KLANG:app.

What is Local Network Access?

Since macOS Big Sur, Apple requires apps to request permission to access the local network. Without this permission, KLANG:app cannot discover or communicate with KLANG processors (e.g., KLANG:fabrik, :konductor, etc.).

How to fix it?

Make sure you only have one KLANG:app application in the Application folder

  1. Open System Setting
  2. Navigate to: Privacy & Security > Local Network
  3. Locate KLANG:app in the list
  4. If your switch is on, turn the switch to OFF. If your switch was already off, proceed with step 10 instead.
  5. Shut down your mac. A restart will not work! It must be turned off
  6. Start you mac
  7. Open System Settings again
  8. Navigate to: Privacy & Security > Local Network
  9. Locate KLANG:app in the list
  10. Turn the switch to ON
  11. Shut down your mac. A restart will not work! It must be turned off
  12. Start you mac
