:fabrik | Quick Start Guide

Congratulations on your very own KLANG:fabrik and welcome to the world of immersive in-ear monitoring! To implement KLANG:fabrik into your system as fast as possible follow these 6 steps below.

What you need

  1. KLANG:fabrik
  2. KLANG:app
  3. Network cable
  4. Dante enabled product/Dante Virtual Soundcard and Dante Controller or MADI/ADAT mixing console

Nice to have:

  1. Tablet or smartphone running KLANG:app
  2. WiFi router

Step 1 | Plug in KLANG:fabrik

Connect a power chord to your system. KLANG:fabrik has two redundant power supplies. That means KLANG:fabrik will work fine with only one power chord connected but the second one grants you extra safety.
Also connect a headphone amplifier or your wireless In-Ear transmitter to the analog outputs OUTPUT:1.

Step 2 | Control Network

You need to open a network to connect your laptop or tablet/smartphone to KLANG:fabrik. We recommend using a road-proof router with two independent WiFi networks with 2.4 & 5 GHz. Connect your router to KLANG:fabrik’s control port with an ethernet cable.

KLANG:fabrik uses two different IP addresses. The first IP address belongs to the 3D in-ear mixing server and is important for all remote devices using KLANG:app. This IP address is shown in the info screen on the touch screen. It is either provided by a DHCP server (e.g. inside a WiFi router) or it is a self-assigned zero-conf IP (starting with 169.x.x.x) if no DHCP server is present on the network when KLANG:fabrik is started. A secondary fixed IP addresses can be set via CONFIG > INFO > Set > Advanced. The second IP address belongs to the Dante card and can be set via the Dante Controller.

Step 3 | KLANG:app

Open KLANG:app and go to CONFIG > CONNECT and choose your device.

If the computer is connected via Ethernet, WiFi should be disabled as running two active network connections could interfere with the device discovery process.
No devices found? Check if one of the available IP addresses of the computer as shown in KLANG:app is in the same range as one of KLANG-DMI’s IP addresses (e.g. via KLANG control panel if the card is installed in a DiGiCo console or via the OrangeBox controller if installed in an Orange Box or via KLANG:app > CONFIG > INFO if the card is installed in a KLANG:konductor). Further, check computer’s network adapter for connection status.

Step 4 | Connect your Audio Source

KLANG:fabrik supports Dante/AES67, MADI (optional configuration) and optical inputs compatible to ADAT. Connect your equipment depending on your setup.

If you don’t have Dante enabled products at hand, you can also send up to 64 channels of audio via a Dante Virtual Soundcard from your Mac/PC.

Step 5 | Audio Routing

Visit the Dante Routing Blog for detailed routing information.

When using MADI or ADAT, connect the cables accordingly.

Use KLANG:app’s routing screen to specify your audio input to the 3D in-ear mixing system and to set the audio clock accordingly.

Step 6 | Enjoy Immersive In-Ear Mixing

  1. Go to CONFIG > CHANNELS and set colors, icons and edit channel names. Assign to individual groups.
  2. Create immersive in.ear mixes using STAGE and FADERS
