DMI-KLANG | Quick Start Guide
STEP 1 | CARD INSTALL
Install in a DiGiCo Console
Any console with a compatible DMI card slot, e.g. Q2, Q3, Q5, Q7, SD12, S21, S31 or KLANG:konductor.
- Power off console / :konductor.
- Install DMI-KLANG in console DMI slot 2 (some consoles have degraded communication to DMI-KLANG in slot 1) or in an empty slot in :konductor.
- Power on console / :konductor..
- Make sure that DMI-KLANG is NOT selected as a clock source in the console or :konductor.
STEP 2 | CONTROL Network
Connect a computer or switch to one of the CONTROL network ports.
All network ports are internally connected to the same network switch/VLAN. Connect a console or any other device that should get forwarded multicast network packets to the CONSOLE port. This device will be able to communicate to DMI-KLANG and other devices connected via the Control ports, but this device will be not receiving multicasts via the Console port.
If no DHCP server is present on the network a link-local IP address (169.254.x.y / 16) will be self-assigned.

KLANG END USER LICENCE AGREEMENT
IMPORTANT- PLEASE READ CAREFULLY: THIS END-USER LICENCE AGREEMENT (“EULA”) IS A LEGAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN YOU (“YOU”) AND KLANG:technologies GmbH of Wespienstr. 8-10, 52062 Aachen, Germany (“KLANG”) FOR THE KLANG SOFTWARE THAT ACCOMPANIES THIS EULA, WHICH INCLUDES COMPUTER SOFTWARE/FIRMWARE WHICH MAY ALSO INCLUDE ASSOCIATED MEDIA, PRINTED MATERIALS “ONLINE” OR ELECTRONIC DOCUMENTATION, AND INTERNET-BASED SERVICES AND DOWNLOADED SOFTWARE AND ANY UPDATES (“SOFTWARE”).
YOU AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THE TERMS OF THIS EULA BY INSTALLING, COPYING, OR OTHERWISE USING THE SOFTWARE.
If You do not agree to the following terms, or do not fulfil the requirements set out in this EULA, no licence is granted to You by this EULA and You may not use, install or download the Software (and any copies of the Software that You do hold must be deleted or destroyed).
- GRANT OF LICENCE.
1.1 In consideration of your paying any price charged for the Software or product sold by KLANG to You which contained the Software at point of sale (“Product”) and/or your compliance with these terms, KLANG grants to You the non-exclusive right to install and/or use the Software as specified in this EULA and in accordance with any documentation that accompanies the Product online or in paper format (and which includes, without limitation, the terms and conditions upon which KLANG sold the Product to You) (“ Documentation ”).
- THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE AND OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE.
2.1 Some or all of the Software may consist of third party applications and packages which may be proprietary and / or open source software. You are obliged to comply with any additional licensing terms related to such third party applications. To the extent that this EULA contains any provision(s) which are contradictory to the terms of those third party applications and packages, the terms of those third party licenses shall apply to that Software as opposed to the terms of this EULA and the terms of this EULA shall not apply to them. Unless stated otherwise in the documentation that accompanies the Software or Product, KLANG does not provide any warranty, maintenance, technical or other support for third party applications and all warranties in the Software are disclaimed as set out in clause 9 below.
2.2 A list of the third party software, acknowledgement and licenses for each Product can be found at https://www.klang.com/license as may be updated from time to time.
2.3 Certain software libraries and other third party software included with the Software are free software and licensed under the terms of open source licenses. You may obtain a complete source code copy of such free software under the terms of the license if applicable, as provided at https://www.klang.com/license.
2.4 To the extent that the Software links to any open source software libraries (“OSS Libraries”) that are provided to You with the Software, nothing in this EULA shall affect Your rights under the licenses on which the owner of intellectual property rights in the relevant OSS Libraries (“Third Party Licensor”) has licensed the OSS Libraries, details of which can be found at https://www.klang.com/license. To the extent that Third Party Licensors have licensed OSS Libraries on the terms of v2.1 or v3 of the GNU Lesser General Public License issued by the Free Software Foundation (the “LGPL”), those OSS Libraries are licensed to You on the terms of the relevant LGPL and are referred to, in this clause 2.4 and in clause 6.1.4, as the LGPL Libraries. You may obtain a complete copy of the source code of the LPGL Libraries without charge at https://www.klang.com/license in order that You may modify the LGPL Libraries in accordance with the relevant LGPL, together with certain object code of the Software necessary to enable You to re-link any modified LGPL Library to the Software.
- EXPORT/IMPORT RESTRICTIONS.
The Software, including technical data, may be subject to U. S. export control laws, and may be subject to export or import regulations in your own and/or other countries. You agree to comply with all such regulations, and acknowledge that it is your responsibility to obtain all licenses to export, re-export, or import the Software. In particular, Software may not be downloaded, or otherwise exported or re-exported (i) into, or to a national or resident of, Cuba, Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Libya, Sudan, Syria (as such listing may be revised from time to time) or any country to which the U.S. has embargoed goods; or (ii) to anyone on the U.S. Treasury Department’s list of Specially Designated Nations or the U.S. Commerce Department’s Table of Denial Orders.
- INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS.
KLANG reserves all rights not expressly granted to You in this EULA or third party licenses associated with it. The Software is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws and treaties. KLANG or its suppliers own or have the right to license the title, copyright, and all other intellectual property rights in the Software. You shall have no rights in or to the Software other than the right to use it in accordance with the terms of this EULA.
- ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE/SERVICES.
This EULA applies to updates, supplements, or add-on components of the Software that KLANG may provide to You, including in accordance with clauses 2.2 and 2.3, or make available to You after the date You obtain your initial copy of the Software unless a further EULA is provided with these.
- LICENSEE’S UNDERTAKINGS
6.1 Except as expressly set out in this License or as permitted by any local law, you undertake:
6.1.1 not to copy the Software or Documentation except where such copying is incidental to normal (i.e. intended) use of the Software or where it is necessary for the purpose of back-up or operational security;
6.1.2 not to translate, merge, adapt, vary or modify the Software or Documentation, except to the extent that by virtue of § 69d of the German Urheberrechtsgesetz (Copyright Act) or other applicable copyright law, such actions cannot be prohibited;
6.1.3 not to permit the Software or any part of it to be combined with, or become incorporated in, any other programs, unless authorised by us in writing;
6.1.4 not to disassemble, decompile, reverse engineer or create derivative works based on the whole, or any part, of the Software nor attempt to do any such things except to the extent that (i) by virtue of § 69e of the German Urheberrechtsgesetz (Copyright Act) or other applicable copyright law, such actions cannot be prohibited, because they are essential for the purpose of achieving interoperability of the Software with another software program, and provided that the information obtained by you during such activities:
(a) is used only for the purpose of achieving interoperability of the Software with another software program; and
(b) is not unnecessarily disclosed or communicated to any third party without our prior written consent; and
(c) is not used to create any software which is substantially similar to the Software; and
(ii) the Software links to LGPL Libraries and reverse engineering of the Software is essential for debugging any modifications You have made to the LGPL Libraries.
6.1.5 where You are acting in the course of Your trade, business, craft or profession (“ Business Customer ”), not to permit the Software to be accessed through an electronic network beyond your normal place of business;
6.1.6 to keep all copies of the Software secure and to maintain accurate and up-to-date records of the number and locations of all copies of the Software;
6.1.7 to supervise and control use of the Software and (where you are a Business Customer) ensure that your employees, representatives and customers use the Software in accordance with the terms of this License.
6.2 Business Customers must permit us and our representatives, at all reasonable times and on reasonable advance notice, to inspect and have access to any premises at which the Software or the Documentation is being kept or used, to the Products and other relevant computer equipment located there, and to any records kept pursuant to this Licence, for the purpose of ensuring that you are complying with the terms of this License.
- TERMINATION.
Without prejudice to any other rights, KLANG may terminate this EULA if You fail to comply with any of the terms of this EULA. In such an event, all rights granted to You under this EULA shall cease, you must cease all activities authorised by this EULA and You must destroy all copies of the Software and all of its component parts within your control.
- LIMITED WARRANTY & YOUR EXCLUSIVE REMEDY.
8.1 Subject to clauses 9.3 and 9.4, KLANG warrants that the Software will perform substantially in accordance with the KLANG materials that accompany the Software for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of receipt. If an implied warranty or condition is created by the laws of your territory that cannot be excluded, You are entitled to rely upon it, but only as to defects discovered during the period of this limited warranty (ninety days).
8.2 KLANG’S ENTIRE LIABILITY, AND YOUR EXCLUSIVE REMEDY, UNDER THE LIMITED WARRANTY PROVIDED IN THIS CLAUSE, OR FOR ANY OTHER BREACH OF THIS EULA, OR FOR ANY OTHER LIABILITY RELATING TO THE SOFTWARE, SHALL BE (AT KLANG’S OPTION), (I) RETURN OF THE AMOUNT PAID (IF ANY) FOR THE SOFTWARE, OR (II) REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF THE SOFTWARE, TO THE EXTENT THAT IT DOES NOT MEET THE LIMITED WARRANTY.
8.3 You will receive the remedy elected by KLANG. You are responsible for any expenses You may incur. The Limited Warranty provided in this clause is void if failure of the Software has resulted from accident, abuse, misapplication, abnormal use, a virus, or combination of the Product or Software with any other product or software. Any replacement Software will be warranted for the remainder of the original warranty period or thirty (30) days, whichever is longer, and KLANG will use reasonable efforts to provide your remedy within a reasonable time of your compliance with KLANG’s warranty remedy procedures.
- DISCLAIMERS.
9.1 The Limited Warranty that appears above is the only warranty made to You and is provided in lieu of any other express warranties or similar obligations (if any) created by any advertising, documentation, packaging, or other communications.
9.2 Except for the Limited Warranty and to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, KLANG and its suppliers provide the Software and support services (if any) “AS IS” and “WITH ALL FAULTS”, and hereby disclaim all other warranties and conditions, whether express, implied or statutory, including, but not limited to, any (if any) implied warranties, duties or conditions of merchantability, of fitness for a particular purpose, of reliability or availability, of accuracy or completeness of responses, of results, of workmanlike effort, of lack of viruses, and of lack of negligence, all with regard to the Software, and the provision of or failure to provide support or other services, information, software, and related content through the Software or otherwise arising out of the use of the Software.
9.3 KLANG DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SOFTWARE IS FREE OF BUGS OR ERRORS, AND THE EXISTENCE OF SUCH WILL NOT RESULT IN KLANG (i) BEING IN BREACH OF THIS EULA OR (ii) INCURRING ANY LIABILITY.
Where you are a consumer and there is any conflict between the terms of this clause 9 and applicable consumer protection law, the consumer protection law shall apply.
- LIMITATION OF LIABILITY.
10.1 To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, and except as provided in any KLANG guarantee provided with the Software or Product and the Limited Warranty (above), KLANG and its suppliers shall not be liable for any damages whatsoever (including without limitation, damages for loss of data, loss of business profits or business opportunity, business interruption, loss of business information or other direct, indirect, consequential or pecuniary loss) arising out of the use or inability to use the Software, even if KLANG has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
10.2 (WITHOUT PREJUDICE TO CLAUSE 8.2) IN ANY CASE KLANG’S ENTIRE LIABILITY UNDER ANY PROVISION OF THIS EULA SHALL BE LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT ACTUALLY PAID BY YOU FOR THE SOFTWARE. THESE LIMITATIONS DO NOT APPLY TO ANY LIABILITIES THAT CANNOT BE EXCLUDED OR LIMITED BY APPLICABLE LAWS. SUBJECT TO THE FOREGOING, KLANG’S LIABILITY FOR INFRINGEMENT OF THIRD PARTY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS SHALL BE LIMITED TO BREACHES OF RIGHTS SUBSISTING IN GERMANY.
10.3 Where you are a consumer and there is any conflict between the terms of this clause 10 and applicable consumer protection law the consumer protection law shall apply.
- GENERAL.
11.1 Save where the Software forms part of a Product, this EULA constitutes the entire agreement between You and KLANG relating to the Software and they supersede all prior or contemporaneous oral or written communications, proposals and representations with respect to the Software or any other subject matter covered by this EULA.
11.2 This EULA is binding on You and KLANG and on any respective successors and assigns.
11.3 If any provision of this EULA is held by a competent authority to be illegal, invalid, void or unenforceable under the laws of any jurisdiction, such term, condition or provision will to that extent be severed from the remaining terms, conditions and provisions which will continue to be valid to the fullest extent permitted by law.
11.4 If KLANG fails, at any time during the term of this EULA to insist upon strict performance of any of your obligations under this EULA, or if it fails to exercise any of the rights or remedies to which it is entitled under this EULA, this shall not constitute a waiver of such rights or remedies and shall not relieve You from compliance with such obligations. A waiver by KLANG of any default shall not constitute a waiver of any subsequent default. No waiver by KLANG of any of these terms and conditions shall be effective unless it is expressly stated to be a waiver and is communicated to you in writing.
11.5 KLANG will not be liable or responsible for any failure to perform, or delay in performance of, any of its obligations under this License that are caused by an event outside of its reasonable control.
11.6 All notices given by You to KLANG must be given to KLANG:technologies GmbH, Wespienstr. 8-10, 52062 Aachen, Germany. KLANG may give notice to You at your most recent address (be it physical or e-mail) known to KLANG, and/or through a notice posted on KLANG’s then website.
11.7 This license shall be governed and construed in accordance with the laws of Germany excluding its conflict of law provisions and the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). Any dispute arising from or related to this EULA shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Düsseldorf, Germany. Where You use the Software outside of Germany, the local law may impose greater restrictions on You that You must comply with.
- YOUR ACKNOWLEDGMENT:
YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU HAVE READ THIS EULA, UNDERSTAND IT, AND AGREE BY USING THE SOFTWARE TO BE BOUND BY ITS TERMS.

10.1 To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, and except as provided in any KLANG guarantee provided with the Software or Product and the Limited Warranty (above), KLANG and its suppliers shall not be liable for any damages whatsoever (including without limitation, damages for loss of data, loss of business profits or business opportunity, business interruption, loss of business information or other direct, indirect, consequential or pecuniary loss) arising out of the use or inability to use the Software, even if KLANG has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
10.2 (WITHOUT PREJUDICE TO CLAUSE 8.2) IN ANY CASE KLANG’S ENTIRE LIABILITY UNDER ANY PROVISION OF THIS EULA SHALL BE LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT ACTUALLY PAID BY YOU FOR THE SOFTWARE. THESE LIMITATIONS DO NOT APPLY TO ANY LIABILITIES THAT CANNOT BE EXCLUDED OR LIMITED BY APPLICABLE LAWS. SUBJECT TO THE FOREGOING, KLANG’S LIABILITY FOR INFRINGEMENT OF THIRD PARTY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS SHALL BE LIMITED TO BREACHES OF RIGHTS SUBSISTING IN GERMANY.
10.3 Where you are a consumer and there is any conflict between the terms of this clause 10 and applicable consumer protection law the consumer protection law shall apply.
- GENERAL.
11.1 This EULA constitutes the entire agreement between You and KLANG relating to the Software and they supersede all prior or contemporaneous oral or written communications, proposals and representations with respect to the Software or any other subject matter covered by this EULA.
11.2 This EULA is binding on You and KLANG and on any respective successors and assigns.
11.3 If any provision of this EULA is held by a competent authority to be illegal, invalid, void or unenforceable under the laws of any jurisdiction, such term, condition or provision will to that extent be severed from the remaining terms, conditions and provisions which will continue to be valid to the fullest extent permitted by law.
11.4 If KLANG fails, at any time during the term of this EULA to insist upon strict performance of any of your obligations under this EULA, or if it fails to exercise any of the rights or remedies to which it is entitled under this EULA, this shall not constitute a waiver of such rights or remedies and shall not relieve You from compliance with such obligations. A waiver by KLANG of any default shall not constitute a waiver of any subsequent default. No waiver by KLANG of any of these terms and conditions shall be effective unless it is expressly stated to be a waiver and is communicated to you in writing.
11.5 KLANG will not be liable or responsible for any failure to perform, or delay in performance of, any of its obligations under this License that are caused by an event outside of its reasonable control.
11.6 All notices given by You to KLANG must be given to KLANG:technologies GmbH, Wespienstr. 8-10, 52062 Aachen, Germany. KLANG may give notice to You at your most recent address (be it physical or e-mail) known to KLANG, and/or through a notice posted on KLANG’s then website.
11.7 This license shall be governed and construed in accordance with the laws of Germany excluding its conflict of law provisions and the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). Any dispute arising from or related to this EULA shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Düsseldorf, Germany. Where You use the Software outside of Germany, the local law may impose greater restrictions on You that You must comply with.

KLANG END USER LICENCE AGREEMENT
IMPORTANT- PLEASE READ CAREFULLY: THIS END-USER LICENCE AGREEMENT (“EULA”) IS A LEGAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN YOU (“YOU”) AND KLANG:technologies GmbH of Wespienstr. 8-10, 52062 Aachen, Germany (“KLANG”) FOR THE KLANG SOFTWARE THAT ACCOMPANIES THIS EULA, WHICH INCLUDES COMPUTER SOFTWARE/FIRMWARE WHICH MAY ALSO INCLUDE ASSOCIATED MEDIA, PRINTED MATERIALS “ONLINE” OR ELECTRONIC DOCUMENTATION, AND INTERNET-BASED SERVICES AND DOWNLOADED SOFTWARE AND ANY UPDATES (“SOFTWARE”).
YOU AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THE TERMS OF THIS EULA BY INSTALLING, COPYING, OR OTHERWISE USING THE SOFTWARE.
If You do not agree to the following terms, or do not fulfil the requirements set out in this EULA, no licence is granted to You by this EULA and You may not use, install or download the Software (and any copies of the Software that You do hold must be deleted or destroyed).
- GRANT OF LICENCE.
1.1 In consideration of your paying any price charged for the Software or product sold by KLANG to You which contained the Software at point of sale (“Product”) and/or your compliance with these terms, KLANG grants to You the non-exclusive right to install and/or use the Software as specified in this EULA and in accordance with any documentation that accompanies the Product online or in paper format (and which includes, without limitation, the terms and conditions upon which KLANG sold the Product to You) (“ Documentation ”).
- THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE AND OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE.
2.1 Some or all of the Software may consist of third party applications and packages which may be proprietary and / or open source software. You are obliged to comply with any additional licensing terms related to such third party applications. To the extent that this EULA contains any provision(s) which are contradictory to the terms of those third party applications and packages, the terms of those third party licenses shall apply to that Software as opposed to the terms of this EULA and the terms of this EULA shall not apply to them. Unless stated otherwise in the documentation that accompanies the Software or Product, KLANG does not provide any warranty, maintenance, technical or other support for third party applications and all warranties in the Software are disclaimed as set out in clause 9 below.
2.2 A list of the third party software, acknowledgement and licenses for each Product can be found at https://www.klang.com/license as may be updated from time to time.
2.3 Certain software libraries and other third party software included with the Software are free software and licensed under the terms of open source licenses. You may obtain a complete source code copy of such free software under the terms of the license if applicable, as provided at https://www.klang.com/license.
2.4 To the extent that the Software links to any open source software libraries (“OSS Libraries”) that are provided to You with the Software, nothing in this EULA shall affect Your rights under the licenses on which the owner of intellectual property rights in the relevant OSS Libraries (“Third Party Licensor”) has licensed the OSS Libraries, details of which can be found at https://www.klang.com/license. To the extent that Third Party Licensors have licensed OSS Libraries on the terms of v2.1 or v3 of the GNU Lesser General Public License issued by the Free Software Foundation (the “LGPL”), those OSS Libraries are licensed to You on the terms of the relevant LGPL and are referred to, in this clause 2.4 and in clause 6.1.4, as the LGPL Libraries. You may obtain a complete copy of the source code of the LPGL Libraries without charge at https://www.klang.com/license in order that You may modify the LGPL Libraries in accordance with the relevant LGPL, together with certain object code of the Software necessary to enable You to re-link any modified LGPL Library to the Software.
- EXPORT/IMPORT RESTRICTIONS.
The Software, including technical data, may be subject to U. S. export control laws, and may be subject to export or import regulations in your own and/or other countries. You agree to comply with all such regulations, and acknowledge that it is your responsibility to obtain all licenses to export, re-export, or import the Software. In particular, Software may not be downloaded, or otherwise exported or re-exported (i) into, or to a national or resident of, Cuba, Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Libya, Sudan, Syria (as such listing may be revised from time to time) or any country to which the U.S. has embargoed goods; or (ii) to anyone on the U.S. Treasury Department’s list of Specially Designated Nations or the U.S. Commerce Department’s Table of Denial Orders.
- INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS.
KLANG reserves all rights not expressly granted to You in this EULA or third party licenses associated with it. The Software is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws and treaties. KLANG or its suppliers own or have the right to license the title, copyright, and all other intellectual property rights in the Software. You shall have no rights in or to the Software other than the right to use it in accordance with the terms of this EULA.
- ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE/SERVICES.
This EULA applies to updates, supplements, or add-on components of the Software that KLANG may provide to You, including in accordance with clauses 2.2 and 2.3, or make available to You after the date You obtain your initial copy of the Software unless a further EULA is provided with these.
- LICENSEE’S UNDERTAKINGS
6.1 Except as expressly set out in this License or as permitted by any local law, you undertake:
6.1.1 not to copy the Software or Documentation except where such copying is incidental to normal (i.e. intended) use of the Software or where it is necessary for the purpose of back-up or operational security;
6.1.2 not to translate, merge, adapt, vary or modify the Software or Documentation, except to the extent that by virtue of § 69d of the German Urheberrechtsgesetz (Copyright Act) or other applicable copyright law, such actions cannot be prohibited;
6.1.3 not to permit the Software or any part of it to be combined with, or become incorporated in, any other programs, unless authorised by us in writing;
6.1.4 not to disassemble, decompile, reverse engineer or create derivative works based on the whole, or any part, of the Software nor attempt to do any such things except to the extent that (i) by virtue of § 69e of the German Urheberrechtsgesetz (Copyright Act) or other applicable copyright law, such actions cannot be prohibited, because they are essential for the purpose of achieving interoperability of the Software with another software program, and provided that the information obtained by you during such activities:
(a) is used only for the purpose of achieving interoperability of the Software with another software program; and
(b) is not unnecessarily disclosed or communicated to any third party without our prior written consent; and
(c) is not used to create any software which is substantially similar to the Software; and
(ii) the Software links to LGPL Libraries and reverse engineering of the Software is essential for debugging any modifications You have made to the LGPL Libraries.
6.1.5 where You are acting in the course of Your trade, business, craft or profession (“ Business Customer ”), not to permit the Software to be accessed through an electronic network beyond your normal place of business;
6.1.6 to keep all copies of the Software secure and to maintain accurate and up-to-date records of the number and locations of all copies of the Software;
6.1.7 to supervise and control use of the Software and (where you are a Business Customer) ensure that your employees, representatives and customers use the Software in accordance with the terms of this License.
6.2 Business Customers must permit us and our representatives, at all reasonable times and on reasonable advance notice, to inspect and have access to any premises at which the Software or the Documentation is being kept or used, to the Products and other relevant computer equipment located there, and to any records kept pursuant to this Licence, for the purpose of ensuring that you are complying with the terms of this License.
- TERMINATION.
Without prejudice to any other rights, KLANG may terminate this EULA if You fail to comply with any of the terms of this EULA. In such an event, all rights granted to You under this EULA shall cease, you must cease all activities authorised by this EULA and You must destroy all copies of the Software and all of its component parts within your control.
- LIMITED WARRANTY & YOUR EXCLUSIVE REMEDY.
8.1 Subject to clauses 9.3 and 9.4, KLANG warrants that the Software will perform substantially in accordance with the KLANG materials that accompany the Software for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of receipt. If an implied warranty or condition is created by the laws of your territory that cannot be excluded, You are entitled to rely upon it, but only as to defects discovered during the period of this limited warranty (ninety days).
8.2 KLANG’S ENTIRE LIABILITY, AND YOUR EXCLUSIVE REMEDY, UNDER THE LIMITED WARRANTY PROVIDED IN THIS CLAUSE, OR FOR ANY OTHER BREACH OF THIS EULA, OR FOR ANY OTHER LIABILITY RELATING TO THE SOFTWARE, SHALL BE (AT KLANG’S OPTION), (I) RETURN OF THE AMOUNT PAID (IF ANY) FOR THE SOFTWARE, OR (II) REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF THE SOFTWARE, TO THE EXTENT THAT IT DOES NOT MEET THE LIMITED WARRANTY.
8.3 You will receive the remedy elected by KLANG. You are responsible for any expenses You may incur. The Limited Warranty provided in this clause is void if failure of the Software has resulted from accident, abuse, misapplication, abnormal use, a virus, or combination of the Product or Software with any other product or software. Any replacement Software will be warranted for the remainder of the original warranty period or thirty (30) days, whichever is longer, and KLANG will use reasonable efforts to provide your remedy within a reasonable time of your compliance with KLANG’s warranty remedy procedures.
- DISCLAIMERS.
9.1 The Limited Warranty that appears above is the only warranty made to You and is provided in lieu of any other express warranties or similar obligations (if any) created by any advertising, documentation, packaging, or other communications.
9.2 Except for the Limited Warranty and to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, KLANG and its suppliers provide the Software and support services (if any) “AS IS” and “WITH ALL FAULTS”, and hereby disclaim all other warranties and conditions, whether express, implied or statutory, including, but not limited to, any (if any) implied warranties, duties or conditions of merchantability, of fitness for a particular purpose, of reliability or availability, of accuracy or completeness of responses, of results, of workmanlike effort, of lack of viruses, and of lack of negligence, all with regard to the Software, and the provision of or failure to provide support or other services, information, software, and related content through the Software or otherwise arising out of the use of the Software.
9.3 KLANG DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SOFTWARE IS FREE OF BUGS OR ERRORS, AND THE EXISTENCE OF SUCH WILL NOT RESULT IN KLANG (i) BEING IN BREACH OF THIS EULA OR (ii) INCURRING ANY LIABILITY.
Where you are a consumer and there is any conflict between the terms of this clause 9 and applicable consumer protection law, the consumer protection law shall apply.
- LIMITATION OF LIABILITY.
10.1 To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, and except as provided in any KLANG guarantee provided with the Software or Product and the Limited Warranty (above), KLANG and its suppliers shall not be liable for any damages whatsoever (including without limitation, damages for loss of data, loss of business profits or business opportunity, business interruption, loss of business information or other direct, indirect, consequential or pecuniary loss) arising out of the use or inability to use the Software, even if KLANG has been advised of the possibility of such damages.

8.3 You will receive the remedy elected by KLANG. You are responsible for any expenses You may incur. The Limited Warranty provided in this clause is void if failure of the Software has resulted from accident, abuse, misapplication, abnormal use, a virus, or combination of the Product or Software with any other product or software. Any replacement Software will be warranted for the remainder of the original warranty period or thirty (30) days, whichever is longer, and KLANG will use reasonable efforts to provide your remedy within a reasonable time of your compliance with KLANG’s warranty remedy procedures.

Where you are a consumer and there is any conflict between the terms of this clause 9 and applicable consumer protection law, the consumer protection law shall apply.

11.3 If any provision of this EULA is held by a competent authority to be illegal, invalid, void or unenforceable under the laws of any jurisdiction, such term, condition or provision will to that extent be severed from the remaining terms, conditions and provisions which will continue to be valid to the fullest extent permitted by law.
11.4 If KLANG fails, at any time during the term of this EULA to insist upon strict performance of any of your obligations under this EULA, or if it fails to exercise any of the rights or remedies to which it is entitled under this EULA, this shall not constitute a waiver of such rights or remedies and shall not relieve You from compliance with such obligations. A waiver by KLANG of any default shall not constitute a waiver of any subsequent default. No waiver by KLANG of any of these terms and conditions shall be effective unless it is expressly stated to be a waiver and is communicated to you in writing.
11.5 KLANG will not be liable or responsible for any failure to perform, or delay in performance of, any of its obligations under this License that are caused by an event outside of its reasonable control.
11.6 All notices given by You to KLANG must be given to KLANG:technologies GmbH, Wespienstr. 8-10, 52062 Aachen, Germany. KLANG may give notice to You at your most recent address (be it physical or e-mail) known to KLANG, and/or through a notice posted on KLANG’s then website.
11.7 This license shall be governed and construed in accordance with the laws of Germany excluding its conflict of law provisions and the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). Any dispute arising from or related to this EULA shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Düsseldorf, Germany. Where You use the Software outside of Germany, the local law may impose greater restrictions on You that You must comply with.

DMI-KLANG
How many KLANG devices can be connected?
Depending on your input channel requirements and the number of mixes required, more than one KLANG device can be connected to the same control network. Input channels arriving on KLANG:fabrik e.g. via MADI, can be routed to other KLANG:fabrik’s and KLANG:vier (48kHz only). Dante input channels can be routed to as many receiving devices as needed. Depending on the network load Dante Multicast flows have to be used and managed switches with proper IGMP snooping and QoS configuration should be used. Most KLANG immersive processors can be configured to work in a cascade of units. There is no limit other than your network limitiation as to how many KLANG:fabrik and KLANG:vier can be added to your network. KLANG:app will show each KLANG device available on your network.
How many :apps can be connected to KLANG immersive processors?
Our products are designed and tested to be used with at least 1 :app or :kontroller per mix, plus 2 :apps for engineers. In most cases is is possible to use even more apps, there is no fixed limit.
How to backup all settings and collect log files?
Where it used to be two different processes to gather log files and presets from KLANG hardware via USB export and email logs , K:a now collects all logs automatically. Follow this link for more details.
How to protect mixes with a password?
It is now possible to enter a KOS Login Password. Users need to know this password to connect to the processor in Show or Admin mode. Follow this link for more details.
Can I protect channels from changes?
Yes, channels can be hidden in KLANG:app running musician or personal mode and on kontrollers and therefore be protected from changes. Follow this link for more details.
What’s the difference between 1st and 2nd generation KLANG processors?
The first two KLANG processors, namely :fabrik and :vier used the same hardware platform. These are the first generation KLANG processors and they both use the same KOS update files.
All processors developed after – :vokal, :vokal+, :konductor, DMI-KLANG – use a different hardware platform and are therefore called 2nd generation KLANG processors. The KOS firmware files for the 2nd generation processors are the same.
Both generations are compatible with the same KLANG:app and Show files can be exchanged between 1st and 2nd generation processors as well.
What sample rates does DMI-KLANG support?
It supports all sample rates that are supported by the host (console or Audio DMI card in slot 1 of an Orange Box) and it will follow automatically.
Does DMI-KLANG have root intensity EQs?
No. DMI-KLANG does not offer EQs. This feature might be added in future KOS versions.

Can I change the panning laws?
With KOS 5.4 it became possible to change the stereo panning laws on 2nd Generation KLANG processors.
The panning law used before KOS 5.4 is KLANG1. Along with the auto mapping feature for the DiGiCo console integration, the panning types D1 and D2 are introduced, these are identical to the type 1 and type 2 panning laws on a DiGiCo. By creating a new KLANG show file from scratch (Load default/defaultOff) panning law D1 is used. Mixes created on a DiGiCo with panning law type 1 while therefore sound identical when imported to as a starting point to KLANG.
The STEREOK3 panning laws are pseudo binaural pannings with different head geometries. Use these panning laws when some signals need to remain in Stereo (e.g. because less coloration is required) and still get improved sound transparency.
Set Stereo Panning Law is stored in a KLANG show file and will be recalled when loading a show file. It affects all mixes.
How to change mixing parameters for many channels or mixes at the same time?
You can set values for specific parameters for channels in all mixes. Follow this link for more details.
Do I need a WiFi router? Which kind is best?
You only need a WiFi router, if you want to connect KLANG:app on smartphones or tables, e.g. for personal mixing or for a monitor engineer when working on the stage. A hardwired ethernet connection is always the best choice for critical communication links, e.g. when running the DiGiCo console integration. We recommend to use a hardwired ethernet connect whenever possible, especially for laptops or computers with an ethernet port.
There are two different frequency bands for WiFi – 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. We recommend to use dual band WiFi routers or Access Points. The 2.4 GHz band might get very busy or noisy when several mobile devices are around. The 5 GHz band tends to be the better choice. In many systems it is possible to define unique SSID to the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, so it is easy to see on a mobile device on which band you are working on. Modern mesh routers are more intelligent and tend to provide the best performance in all situations.
What kind of network switches work with Dante?
Generally, managed switches with deactivated EEE are preferred for Dante networks.
How can I update DMI expansion cards?
Login with KLANG:app to your :konductor. Go to CONFIG > INFO > SET > Update DMI cards.
The DMI card firmwares are included in the KLANG Operating System (KOS). A KOS Update might offer new firmwares, but they will never be installed automatically. Head to CONFIG > INFO to check if a new firmware is available for your DMI cards.
In which slot of an OrangeBox can DMI-KLANG be installed?
DMI-KLANG can only be installed in slot 2 of a DiGiCo OrangeBox. Slot 1 is always the clock master, and since DMI-KLANG does not provide an audio clock, it has be in the second slot and get its clock from an audio IO card in slot 1.
What is KLANG’s software update release and product support philosophy?
KLANG products are designed to be used for long periods of time and our philosophy will always be to try our best to offer support for as long as it is needed; however, this might become limited for various reasons, for example where we are depending on third party component suppliers, soft- and hardware developers etc. Our legacy products KLANG:fabrik (introduced in 2014), KLANG:vier and KLANG:quelle 19” are still receiving updates today, following this philosophy.
KLANG does not rely on rigidly fixed software update cycles (e.g. once or twice a year). Instead we aim to constantly maintain and improve the user experience, especially by releasing KLANG:app improvements to react to changes in smartphone or computer operating system updates as soon as possible.
How can I store and recall presets, show files or mixes?
Presets are by default stored inside the immersive processor hardware and can be recalled directly via KLANG:app. In order to backup presets or transfer them from one KLANG device to another, simply connect with KLANG:app go to the CONFIG > PRESET page, select a preset from the dropdown and click TRANSFER. Presets are interchangable between different immersive processors e.g. between KLANG:fabrik and KLANG:konductor.
How can I listen or CUE into mixes?
All KLANG immersive processors allow for CUEing into all available mixes. This is particularly helpful for monitor engineers that need to constantly switch between mixes. Details on the CUE functionality can be found here.

Which Sampling Rates are supported?
KLANG:vier can receive (Dante and ADAT comp.) and transmit (Dante) audio with 44.1 and 48kHz.
KLANG:fabrik can receive and transmit digitial audio (Dante, MADI, ADAT comp.) with single speed sampling rages 44.1/48kHz and double speed sampling rates 88.2/96kHz. At double speed, ADAT comp. inputs and outputs use SMUX format. MADI input can receive 28/32channel with high frame rate and SMUX. Transmit is always high frame rate with 32 channels.
KLANG:quelle can receive Dante audio with 44.1/48kHz, 88.2/96kHz and 176.4/192kHz.
KLANG:vokal, DMI-KLANG and :kontroller and :konductor can work with 48kHz and 96kHz and offer the exact same channel count / mix count with both sample rates.
What is a mix or an output? Is it mono or stereo?
A mix (or :output as labelled on the back of e.g. KLANG:fabrik) always refers stereo pair of output channels. In order for the 3D processing to work the connection between our immersive KLANG in-ear mixing processor and the in-ears / headphones has to be stereo as well.
How to change to Admin, Show, Personal or Musician user mode?

Do I need a control computer for the DiGiCo console link?
Yes. The KLANG DiGiCo Console Link requires a computer running KLANG:app for setup and for operation.
Is there a way to decrease :kontrollers Display brightness or turn them off?
Yes, you can activate Dark mode/:kontroller blackout which turns all LEDs and Displays (except for the last one)off. This is particular useful for theatres when the stage should be as dark as possible. With a push on any rotary button, the dark mode can be exited. [KKA-120]

Do I need special headphones or in-ears to experience 3D sound?
No. KLANG incorporates binaural technology and processes the sound inside a KLANG processor to work with your own pair of standard stereo headphones or in-ears. In fact, it is not important if your headphones are open or closed, electrostatic, dynamic or use balanced armature drivers as most in-ears do. You can use universal fit in-ears or custom molded in-ears. Just make sure that the polarity is correct and the left and right signals go to the correct ears.
Which DiGiCo consoles are compatible with DMI-KLANG
DMI-KLANG can be installed in the DMI slots of the following DiGiCo consoles:

Is it Personal Monitoring System or is it a tool for Monitor Engineers?
Both.
The KLANG system is designed to be very easy to use especially if you don’t have years of experience in mixing monitors. The 3D in-ear mixing functionality enables musicians to get a very transparent and natural in-ear / headphone mix and a very short time.
At the same time, our products and especially KLANG:app offers all features experienced sound engineers or monitor engineers expect when working with a mixing tool for the live or studio market. Especially features like CUE mixing for musicians is a feature you want to use at mixing monitors constantly.
Why are all other groups turned down if I increase the volume of one group?
KLANG:app and KLANG:kontroller offer customizable DCA groups for an improved mixing workflow e.g. during a show. By default, the volume of all other groups is decreased when the volume of one group is increased. This helps to keep the sound pressure level approximately the same and prevent the mix to get louder.
However, if you want to deactivate relative DCA group mixing go to KLANG:app > CONFIG (requires Admin mode to change this setting) > INFO > SET > Disable KLANG:app Relative Group Mixing
In order to change the behavior for KLANG:kontroller login with KLANG:app to your KLANG:kontroller (requires Admin mode to change this setting) > INFO > SET > Disable Relative Group Mixing.
KLANG:app does not find any KLANG devices on the network

What do the red or green icons above CONFIG stand for?
From left to right.
“C” stands for Clock
- green: clock sync is OK.
- red: there is a clock error
Change and monitor clock settings in CONFIG > ROUTING.
“N” stands for Network
- green: Connection and ping time to KLANG processor OK
- orange/yellow: some pings did not come through or the ping time is very long > Network problems or processor overload
- red: connection to KLANG processor lost or communication too slow > check network settings and processor.

“D” indicator (DiGiCo console is Init Master) /
“K” (KLANG is Init Master) indicator above CONFIG /
“T” (Throttling is active) network messages are currently slowed down as there is a lot going on.
- <No indicator>: Mixing Console Link Mode is set to OFF
- Blinking Green: Mixing Console Link Mode is set to Setup
- Static: Mixing Console Link Mode is set to Active
- Blinking Red: Link Mode is set to Active but NO Mix or NO Channel Mappings are set.

How do I exchange presets between different processors?
Presets are interchangeable between all KLANG immersive processors.
If the presets contains less input channels or less mixes these settings will be added from the default file. In case the preset has more mixes or more input channels than the processor offers the first mixes and first channels will be loaded until the maximum is reached.
What mixing consoles can be connected?
Any digital mixing console with either ADAT / optical outputs or the Dante AoIP protocol or AES67 support or MADI BNC or Optocore.

Which Characters are allowed for Preset Names?
Preset names shall not include blank spaces or any special characters such as \“#@,;:<>*^|?\\/ etc.
Allowed characters are ‘a–z’, ‘A–Z’, ‘0–9’, ‘-‘, ‘.’, ‘_’
Can I remote control the system via MIDI or OSC?
Yes, that is possible.
KLANG:app, all KLANG processors and :kontroller exclusively communicate with each other via OpenSoundControl (OSC) messages. Find all details about the OSC messages in the OSC Reference Guide.
KLANG:app can further be controlled via MIDI / MCU.
There are also flexible third party converters from OSC to OSC or MIDI to OSC available, such as OSCulator. In this way, mixing console commands like snapshot recall or fader comnands can be converted. Additionally, tools like touchOSC can be used to design specific graphic interfaces if required.
Why is the KLANG sound so much more transparent?
Our hearing always relies on spatial cues and is trained to listen to different directions. Once we concentrate to listen to sound coming from a specific location (hitting our ears from a certain angle) the other sounds from other directions are blended out immediately. With KLANG:fabrik and KLANG:vier this spatial cues are delivered through your in-ears and headphones and your ears can work in the same way they are used to do. This feels very natural and is not tiring for your ears. That is the reason why many musicians still feel relaxed when playing live or in the studio through KLANG’s 3D mixing.
Without KLANG? If your ears don’t find these spatial cues in your sound mix, you have to concentrate on specific timbres or sounds of instruments. What happens then, you have to think e.g. how a violin sounds like and then find the violin like sound character in a one-dimensional sound mix. This is a very challenging task for your ears and your brain. No matter how experienced you are with this, 3D in-ear mixing relieves your ears.
Do I need an iPad, Tablet or Smartphone?
It depends. If you want to use the KLANG processor a personal monitoring system all musician should have access to their mixes.
This can either be done with KLANG:app on smartphone or tablets or with KLANG:kontroller. This works of course at the same time, it’s completely your choice.
My device shows MMC error or its status LED is red
Get in touch with our support team via our website and include a brief error description, what happened before the issue occured and include the serial number of your device. If this occured right after a KOS update via USB, also send the log files created on the USB drive during the KOS update procedure. Also include the last KOS version installed on the device.

Follow these steps, stop once device is booting normally again:
1) Start a video recording of the display or LED and restart device.
2) Perform a USB KOS Update, it might take up to 30s until display or LEDs are lid
3) If display shows “MMC error” MMC card needs to be reseated/renewed
– :kontroller needs to be sent in for service. Last display is blinking yellow.
– :vokal/:konductor
Remove the cover plate (4 screws, rear panel, right side, opposite to power inlet),
Re-seat micro SD card(s). Push on the card, take it out, wipe contacts, push in again. Do the same for the other card on :konductor. Power :vokal/:konductor on.
– Remove DMI-KLANG. Re-seat micro SD card. Push on the card, take it out, wipe contacts, push in again. Install DMI-KLANG again.
4) Perform a KOS Update via USB.
5) Replace micro SD card / Customer support will help you with this process.
